A new route has been launched in Bakota: now it will be easier to explore Ukrainian Atlantis
In the Khmelnytskyi region, there is now a new way to discover the mysterious Bakota, a place known as the Ukrainian Atlantis. Thanks to a new tourist route with interactive elements, travellers can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the region, its legends and nature. Find out how you can now explore Bakota on foot, by bike or by car
A new tourist route has appeared in the Khmelnytskyi region, leading to one of the most mysterious and picturesque places in Ukraine — the flooded village of Bakota, which has long been unofficially called ‘Ukrainian Atlantis.’ Now, travelling here will be more convenient and informative thanks to updated infrastructure and interactive elements. This was announced by the authors of the project from the public organisation ‘Cultural Club’.
What you need to know about the route
The route ‘From Horaivka to Bakota’ was created as part of the ‘Voices of Bakota’ project with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation. Special signs and markings have been installed along the entire route to help tourists easily follow the route and not miss the key points — there are ten of them, and each has its own story.
According to the project's creators, the route connects the village of Horaivka with the Bakota Bay and passes through ‘places of power,’ observation decks, scenic locations, and art objects.
‘Step by step, it leads through a space where nature and memory create a special atmosphere. We wanted to convey the living breath of Bakota — with its silence, water, legends, and light,’ the organisers note.

The route is equipped with modern technology
A special feature of the new route is the QR codes placed on signposts and maps. With their help, tourists can access offline 3D tours and an audio guide that tells about each point along the way. This will allow travellers to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the region even without an internet connection.
For the convenience of guests, an offline map of the route is already available in the Bakota Hub tourist space. Here you can learn more about the region's cultural initiatives, buy souvenirs and relax after a walk.
In addition, as part of the project, a series of unique ‘animated’ murals have been created in Horaivka. One of them can already be seen near the road to the bay — to see how the picture moves, just point your smartphone camera at the image. Such art objects will become part of the tourist experience and another way to bring the legends of Bakota to life.
