When will heating be turned on in Kyiv and the regions: authorities announce dates
The 2025–2026 heating season has begun in Ukraine despite the difficult energy situation and constant attacks on infrastructure. The authorities emphasize the importance of using resources sparingly and ensuring a stable winter. Find out when and how heating is turned on in the capital and the region, as well as what challenges the country faces
On Wednesday, October 29, the heating season for residential buildings will officially begin in Kyiv. This was announced by the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, noting that the decision was made taking into account several key factors—weather conditions, rational use of fuel, ensuring sanitary temperatures in homes, and reducing the load on the power grid.
Klitschko reminded that the launch of the heat supply system is a technological process that can take up to seven days. Given the forecast of a further drop in temperature, the city authorities decided to start supplying heat to Kyiv residents' homes now.
Earlier, on October 3, Kyiv began connecting hospitals, schools, kindergartens, and other social facilities to the heating system based on individual requests from the heads of these institutions.
The 2025–2026 heating season has begun in Ukraine: when will heat be supplied in Kyiv and the surrounding region?
In the Kyiv region, the heating season started a day earlier, on October 28. According to the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnik, heat will be supplied to the housing stock gradually.
Connection is taking place:
- based on requests from service organizations;
- taking into account the average daily temperature;
- in accordance with the principle of economical energy consumption.
Kalashnik called on the region's residents to use resources rationally, as the enemy continues to regularly attack critical infrastructure — energy facilities and gas distribution systems.
“Careful use of resources is a matter of our energy security and sustainability,” the head of the Regional Military Administration emphasized.

Social infrastructure already heated
Throughout October, educational institutions, hospitals, kindergartens, and other social facilities with individual heating systems were connected to the heating network in the region. Those connected to the centralized network receive heat along with residential buildings.
Preparations for winter in the Kyiv region began immediately after the end of the previous heating season. The communities systematically carried out:
- repair and renovation of heating networks and boiler rooms;
- installation and commissioning of new cogeneration plants;
- regular meetings of the operational headquarters of the Regional Defense Council on technical readiness.
Heating season in Ukraine: situation and challenges
According to the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development, the heating season has already begun in most regions of Ukraine. As of today, 13 regions are partially connected.
“The season started amid unprecedented enemy attacks on energy and heat generation facilities. Despite the difficult situation, the technical readiness of enterprises allows us to provide the population with heat,” said Deputy Minister Kostyantyn Kovalchuk.
As of today, more than
55% of social facilities,
5,000 kindergartens,
almost 6,000 schools,
and more than 2,000 hospitals
have been connected to heating. 17,500 boiler rooms and 17,000 kilometers of heating networks have been prepared for operation, of which more than 340 km have been replaced or repaired.
Gas problems and government measures
Ukraine has temporarily suspended gas injections into underground storage facilities due to Russian shelling of energy infrastructure and the suspension of imports from Poland. This has created risks for a stable winter.
First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said that the country urgently needs to arrange additional gas imports due to a decline in its own production.
Despite the secrecy surrounding the volumes and amounts of purchases, the government decided to allocate UAH 8.4 billion for gas imports for the 2025–2026 season. According to Deputy Minister of Energy Mykola Kolesnik, the injection plan has been 99.5% completed, but imports will continue to compensate for the domestic deficit.
The 2025–2026 heating season will start amid high energy risks and military challenges, but Ukraine is demonstrating its readiness for winter. Despite the difficulties, the authorities promise a stable heating period.
Reminder! Cold weather arrived earlier than warm heaters, and many Ukrainians found themselves without heating and gas. To avoid freezing at home, it is important to know how to heat your apartment even without centralized heating. Find out what methods will help you heat your home without heating in our article.
