Ryanair has postponed the date for switching exclusively to electronic tickets: when will the rules be implemented?
Ryanair has announced a new date for the transition to fully digital boarding passes — the airline is finally abandoning paper documents. Soon, all passengers will be able to check in only through the myRyanair app. Find out how this will affect your trip and why not all travellers are happy with the changes
Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has announced a new date for the full transition to digital boarding passes. From 12 November 2025, the airline will completely abandon printed documents, which passengers previously downloaded and printed themselves. The launch was originally scheduled for 3 November, but has been postponed by a week.
How the new system will work
From now on, every traveller will need to use a digital boarding pass created in the myRyanair mobile app during online check-in. The company notes that this approach will make the travel process faster, more convenient and more environmentally friendly.
According to Ryanair's marketing director Dara Brady, the app not only allows you to store your boarding pass, but also to use additional features such as seat reservations, real-time flight information and other services that make travelling easier.

Why Ryanair is implementing changes
The company emphasises that almost 80% of Ryanair's more than 206 million passengers already use digital tickets, so the decision to make the full transition was a logical step. The choice of 12 November is also no coincidence — this is the period when passenger traffic declines after the autumn holidays and vacations, which will allow the new system to be tested without additional load.
Despite the convenience for most travellers, the innovation has also sparked a wave of criticism. Some passengers have expressed dissatisfaction with the abandonment of paper tickets, as some are accustomed to having them on hand as a more ‘reliable’ option. There have even been calls on social media to boycott the airline.
For those who have been using smartphones while travelling for a long time, there will be virtually no change. However, those who preferred paper documents will have to install the myRyanair app and learn how to use digital services.
