Italy has tightened its rules of conduct for tourists, and now even actions that seem innocent at first glance can cost thousands of euros. Strict restrictions have been imposed in popular resort areas, and violators face not only fines but also possible imprisonment. This is reported by the publication BILD.

Why is Italy introducing new restrictions?

Italy remains one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. Millions of tourists visit it every year, putting a significant strain on historical sites and natural landscapes. Local authorities are increasingly faced with problems of irresponsible behavior by vacationers, from littering beaches to damaging cultural sites.

According to Italian Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè, the country “loves tourists but expects respect.” That is why new rules have been introduced in the regions to discipline travelers.

The most severe penalties: counterfeit brands and prison

One of the most severe penalties concerns the purchase of counterfeit designer goods. Tourists who buy fake bags, sunglasses, or watches risk a fine of up to €7,000 or even up to six months in prison. This rule is intended to protect Italian fashion and local businesses from illegal trade.

Fines on beaches and resorts in Italy

The Sardinian authorities are particularly attentive to nature conservation. Here, it is forbidden to dig holes on beaches, build large sandcastles, or take sand and shells home. Such actions can result in a fine of up to €3,000. These rules are explained by the desire to protect the island's unique ecosystems, as even minor interference leads to the gradual destruction of the coastline.

The Italian capital also has its restrictions. Tourists are strictly prohibited from sitting on the famous Spanish Steps or dragging suitcases across them. Violators will have to pay €400. Local authorities explain these rules by the need to preserve the monument in proper condition, as the steps have been damaged many times due to the careless attitude of visitors.

Equally unexpected restrictions are in place in various regions:

● In Calabria (Praga a Mare), parents are fined €250 if their children under the age of 14 are on the street after 12:30 a.m.

● In Liguria, it is forbidden to walk in flip-flops on mountain trails — this is dangerous for both tourists and rescuers, who in the event of an incident are forced to rescue careless vacationers.

● On the island of Capri, it is forbidden to wear shoes that make too much noise on the cobblestones — this rule is intended to preserve the peace and comfort of local residents.

At first glance, these rules seem strange, but they are designed to harmoniously combine the interests of tourists and residents of the country.

When planning a trip, it is worth familiarizing yourself with local laws in advance and preparing for the journey. For example, it is convenient to book tickets for planes, trains, and buses through the Visit Ukraine system, which allows you to quickly plan a route to any corner of the world.

And if you plan to travel by car, don't forget about international insurance. To cross the border, you must have a Green Card, which can also be easily obtained online at Visit Ukraine. This is not just a formality, but also a guarantee of financial protection in the event of an accident.

We remind you! Searching for cheap airline tickets often turns into a quest: prices change daily, discounts appear and disappear, and airline algorithms work against ordinary passengers. But experienced travelers have their own tricks that allow them to pay half as much for the same flight. Read about which methods will help you save on flights and travel more profitably in our previous article.
