What products are prohibited from being exported from Ukraine abroad?
According to the legislation, it is strictly forbidden to import into the EU:
- meat and meat products;
- milk and dairy products;
- canned meat products.
Given this, some products familiar to Ukrainians fall under restrictions, so before traveling, it is important to consider that it is strictly forbidden to export abroad:
- Lard in any form.
- Sausage products.
- Dairy products, including cheese, milk, yogurt, sour cream, butter.
- Any type of fresh meat.
- Industrial or homemade canned food, regardless of whether it is stew or condensed milk.
In EU countries, these restrictions are strict - customs officers can seize and dispose of products on the spot.
We talked in detail about the things that are prohibited from being transported across the Ukrainian border earlier.
What can you take with you to eat on the road when traveling abroad?
It is important to remember that each traveler can have a certain amount of food with them to eat on the road. However, the total weight of food transported in hand luggage cannot exceed 2 kg per person, the list includes:
- Sandwiches - without restrictions.
- Pastries without meat or dairy filling (permitted with fish or eggs, but not more than 50% of the total weight of the products).
- Fruits: without restrictions - bananas, coconuts, pineapples, dates; others - within the established limit.
- Sweets and snacks: candies, cookies, nuts, dried fruits.
- Ready-made products: instant pasta, freeze-dried meals, other products without meat or milk.
- Broths and seasonings: packaged or in the form of cubes, as well as food supplements in consumer packaging.
- Enteral nutrition mixtures.
Is it possible to transport twist-offs across the border?
There is no direct ban on the transport of home-made preserves. However, the final decision is made by customs officers at the checkpoint. Jars with twist-offs can arouse suspicion, which is why the products are confiscated, even if they do not contain any prohibited items.
To avoid complications, we do not recommend taking home-made preserves with you abroad. A great alternative is to pack them in food containers. This will significantly reduce the likelihood of confiscation at customs.
What are the consequences of violating customs regulations?
Violating customs regulations can have serious consequences. Depending on the nature of the violation, a foreigner may face:
- Confiscation and disposal of illegally imported goods.
- A fine (the amount is determined depending on the violation).
- Imprisonment for a term of 3 months to 5 years.
Important! Punishments can be combined, and the presence of one does not exclude the other.
