To enter Poland, Ukrainian citizens must have not only a valid passport and documents confirming the purpose of their stay, but also sufficient financial means to cover their living expenses and return home. These requirements are checked by the border service, and failure to comply with the rules may be grounds for refusal of entry.
Before any trip abroad, it is important to take care not only of currency, but also of travel insurance. On the Visit Ukraine platform, you can quickly take out travel insurance that will cover unforeseen expenses abroad, including treatment and medical evacuation.
How much money do you need to have with you to enter Poland?
The amount depends on the length of your planned stay:
up to 4 days — at least PLN 300;
more than 4 days — at least PLN 75 per day.
In addition, if the traveler does not have a return ticket, they must have funds for their return:
- PLN 200 if they arrived from a country neighboring Poland;
- PLN 500 if they arrived from another EU member state;
- PLN 2,500 if they arrived from a country outside the EU.
Documents required for entry
To cross the border, a foreigner must have:
- a valid passport or other travel document;
- a visa or other document confirming the right of stay (e.g., a residence card), if required by the purpose of the trip;
- insurance valid for the entire period of stay, with coverage of at least EUR 30,000. You can quickly select and purchase this medical insurance online on our Visit Ukraine service, choosing the best option in terms of price and conditions.
- confirmation of the purpose of the trip — an invitation, employment contract, certificate of study, etc.

Additional requirements for students and employees
Persons entering for the purpose of study or employment must have additional supporting documents. For example, students must present a certificate from their university and have at least PLN 1,270 for the first two months of their stay.
Who is exempt from the obligation to prove financial means?
It is not always necessary to prove financial means. Exceptions apply to persons who have:
- a work visa;
- a visa based on a Polish Card;
- a residence card.
Grounds for refusal of entry
Even if you have a visa or a biometric passport, border guards may refuse entry if:
- the purpose of the stay is not confirmed;
- the permitted visa-free period has expired (90 days within 180 days in the Schengen area);
- there is no insurance or financial means;
- the documents are forged.
The decision to refuse entry is made by the head of the border service and is subject to immediate enforcement.
💡 If you are planning to travel abroad in your own car, don't forget to get an international Green Card insurance policy at Visit Ukraine. This document is mandatory for entering most European countries in a Ukrainian car and will protect you from unforeseen expenses in the event of an accident.
