A new phase of the U-HEAL II program has started in Poland to support Ukrainian nurses and midwives who want to keep working in the country. The initiative will help these professionals adapt to the Polish job market, go through the necessary procedures, and get financial support at the start of their careers.

Financial assistance of up to $1,500 in Poland: how to apply

CARE Poland has announced that it is accepting applications for the second phase of the program. Participants who moved to Poland after February 24, 2022, are eligible to receive vouchers worth up to $1,500. These funds can be used for:

- nostrification of a bachelor's degree;

- payment of part of the tuition fees at a Polish medical university in the field of midwifery or nursing (support is available to both current students and future applicants for the 2025/2026 academic year);

- Polish language courses to achieve the B1 or B2 level required to pass the state language exam.

In addition to financial assistance, the program provides information support: advice on administrative issues, assistance in preparing documents, recommendations on choosing language courses and educational institutions, as well as support in integrating into the Polish labor market.

Who can apply?

Ukrainian nurses and midwives who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for the program:

- arrived in Poland after February 24, 2022;

- have temporary protection (PESEL UKR) or a valid residence permit (Karta Pobytu);

- have a nursing or midwifery qualification and at least 3 years of work experience;

- have already obtained or plan to obtain a conditional work permit in the Polish healthcare system (PWZ);

- have Polish language skills at a level not lower than A2 and are willing to improve their language skills.

How to apply?

Applications are open until September 15, 2025, via a special online form. The organizers emphasize that the number of places is limited, so documents will be considered in the order in which they are received.

Why is this important?

The adaptation of Ukrainian medical professionals in Poland is often difficult: they need to have their diplomas recognized, learn the language, and get used to new working conditions. The U-HEAL II program alleviates some of the financial burden and helps participants navigate all the bureaucratic and educational stages more quickly.

Previously, Poland had tightened its requirements for the employment of Ukrainian doctors: now, at least an intermediate level of Polish is required to work. This makes language training even more relevant — and it is precisely this need that the CARE Poland program covers.

Important reminder

When confirming your diploma and finding employment abroad, you may need an apostille and an official translation of your documents into Polish. This is a mandatory requirement for the nostrification of medical education.
