Ukrzaliznytsia is considering changes to fares: which tickets may become more expensive?
The rules for pricing railway tickets in Ukraine may change. Find out which tickets will remain affordable and who will have to pay more
The chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Pertsovsky, said that most train tickets will remain affordable at least until the end of martial law. At the same time, according to UNIAN, the company plans to introduce a dynamic pricing system, which will increase the cost of certain tickets depending on the time of purchase.
Affordable fares on Ukrzaliznytsia will remain until the end of martial law
According to Pertsovsky, in the current economic conditions, it is important to maintain stable ticket prices, as the incomes of many Ukrainians, especially pensioners, are practically not growing, and therefore people must have access to trains. At the same time, he considers it appropriate to apply a new approach to pricing in order to encourage passengers to plan their trips in advance. Such a system is already in place in many countries around the world and allows passengers to buy tickets at a significantly lower price when booking early.

Dynamic pricing: who will pay more for UZ tickets
The model proposed by Ukrzaliznytsia provides that passengers who purchase tickets in advance will receive them at the lowest possible fare. On the other hand, those who buy tickets at the last minute or for remaining seats will pay more.
This principle is planned to be applied primarily to more expensive ticket categories, such as SV carriages, where state-regulated fares are currently in effect. According to Pertsovsky, restrictions for this market segment are inappropriate because they hinder the development of passenger transport.
However, despite discussions about the new fare policy, Ukrzaliznytsia has not officially submitted any proposals to increase passenger fares. Pertsovsky emphasized that until the end of martial law, base prices will remain unchanged, and changes may only affect a limited number of destinations and ticket categories.
At the same time, he noted that any innovations should not affect the military — they will continue to enjoy preferential conditions even if dynamic pricing is introduced.
