The route between Kyiv and Bratislava in 2025 has become one of the most popular among travellers. Slovakia is not only a transit country to Europe, but also an interesting tourist destination with architecture, business events and proximity to Austria and the Czech Republic. Ukrainians working in Slovakia and neighbouring countries, students, businesspeople, foreign tourists, and those travelling further west all travel to Bratislava. After 2022, border crossings became more organised, but additional checks were also introduced. Therefore, choosing reliable transport is now critically important.

How to get from Kyiv to Bratislava in 2025?

Kyiv-Bratislava train

There is a train connection between Ukraine and Slovakia, but it is not direct. You usually need to change trains in Košice or Przemyśl. This makes the journey longer and less convenient.

Pros: a relatively safe and stable option, the possibility of travelling with large luggage.

Cons: long duration (18 hours or more with transfers), tickets sell out quickly, and transfers are an additional stress.

Bus Kyiv - Bratislava

Direct buses run daily between Kyiv and Bratislava, but this option has obvious drawbacks.

The problem of delays at the border: queues can increase the journey time to 20 hours or more.

Comfort: the seats are cramped, and long journeys are exhausting. Travelling at night is a little easier, but it doesn't make the journey any faster.

BlaBlaCar and private transport

These options are suitable for those looking for a cheaper solution but do not want to depend on a schedule.

Risks: unpredictability of the driver, lack of safety guarantees and stops. If you travel by private car, you will have to cross the border yourself, endure queues, and bear all the costs of fuel, toll roads and insurance.
