The main reasons for fines on the railroad are

1. Damage to property on trains

According to Article 110 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Ukraine (CAO), a fine of UAH 170 to 510 is imposed for damaging the internal equipment of passenger cars or damaging the glass of locomotives and cars. This can apply to any actions that lead to material damage, from writing on the walls to breaking furniture.

2. Smoking in unauthorized places

Smoking in cars, including in the vestibules of suburban trains, as well as in local and long-distance trains outside designated areas, is punishable by a fine of UAH 85-340 or a warning. The same applies to violations in subways.

3. Dangerous behavior on the tracks and in the train

Article 109 of the Code of Administrative Offenses provides for a number of fines for safety violations:

Unauthorized travel in freight trains, jumping from a train while it is in motion, traveling on footrests or roofs - from 119 to 255 hryvnias.

Damage to railroad facilities and tracks - from 170 to 510 hryvnias for citizens and up to 1,020 hryvnias for officials.

Walking on the tracks in the wrong places, as well as throwing garbage out of the cars - a warning or a fine of UAH 34-170.

For citizens - 170-340 UAH.

For officials - up to UAH 425.

Frequantly
asked questions
How long can I return a train ticket?
The refund amount depends on the time when the ticket was handed in. Thus, if it is more than a day before the train departure: - more than a day, the full cost of the ticket and reserved seat is refunded; - from 24 to 6 hours - the full cost of the ticket and 50% of the reserved seat cost; - less than 6 hours - only the full cost of the ticket. If a person returns a ticket within an hour after the train departure, only 10% of the ticket price is refunded (you can return the ticket only at the station ticket office). Tickets are not refundable if more than an hour has passed since the train departure. The only exceptions are emergency cases, and to get a refund you need to issue a special ‘claim ticket return’.
