On January 1, 2026, Ukraine officially launched a new state childbirth benefit—a one-time payment of 50,000 hryvnia. The law has already come into force, meaning parents can now apply for the funds. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing explanations given by Lyudmila Shemelinets, First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, during a televised marathon.
We explain who is eligible for the payment, how to apply for it, and what to pay attention to when submitting documents.
What does the new “child” payment in 2026 entail?
In accordance with the law that came into force on January 1, 2026, the state has introduced a one-time financial assistance payment of 50,000 hryvnia upon the birth of a child. The payment is provided once and is intended to support families in the first months after the birth of a child.
This is a one-time cash benefit, not a monthly payment or support package. The family can use the funds at their discretion — for the child's basic needs, medical expenses, or household expenses.

Who is eligible for 50,000 hryvnia upon the birth of a child
The recipient of the payment is the mother of a child born after the law comes into force, i.e., from January 1, 2026. The payment is made in accordance with current legislation through state social protection agencies.
No other restrictions or additional conditions are specified in the explanations provided — the key factor is the fact that the child was born after January 1, 2026, and that the relevant application has been submitted.
How to apply for the 50,000 hryvnia child benefit: two ways
The Ministry of Social Policy has provided two official ways to apply for the benefit.
1. Through the Pension Fund of Ukraine. The first and currently most reliable way is to apply in person to the Pension Fund of Ukraine. This option is recommended in cases where the payment needs to be processed as quickly as possible. According to Lyudmila Shemelinets, the technical implementation of digital services may take some time, so the Pension Fund is already ready to accept applications and process them in the standard mode.
2. Through the “eMalyatko” service in the “Diy” app. The second option is to submit an application online through the ‘eMalyatko’ service, which is available in the “Diy” app. This is a comprehensive digital service that allows you to complete documents related to the birth of a child without visiting government agencies. However, the Ministry of Social Policy warns that due to technical issues, the service may experience a slight delay. Therefore, if you need assistance immediately, it is better to apply offline to the Pension Fund.
A representative of the ministry separately emphasized that launching a new program is a complex technical process, and digital services may require additional time to function fully.
We remind you! From the beginning of 2026, Ukrainians will have to take into account the updated tariffs for processing passport documents and residence permits. The changes affect ID cards and foreign passports, as well as documents for temporary and permanent residence, which directly affects the costs when planning to replace or obtain new documents. Read how much it now costs to obtain a passport in Ukraine and what prices will apply in 2026.
