General rules for importing medicines into the Republic of Congo

The Republic of Congo has strict rules on the import of medicines, especially if these drugs contain controlled or psychotropic substances. Usually, medicines are only allowed to be imported for personal use, and the quantity of these drugs must not be commercial. The main conditions for importing medicines are as follows:

– The drugs must not be prohibited in the country.

– Medicines may only be imported in quantities necessary for a course of treatment (no more than 30 days).

– To import medicines, you must have medical confirmation of their use (a prescription or a certificate from a doctor), preferably in English or French, indicating the active ingredient, dosage and duration of treatment.

Analysis of specific drugs: Nimesil, Citramon and Amiksin

Nimesil (active ingredient – nimesulide)

Nimesulide is a potentially hepatotoxic drug and is banned in some countries (e.g. the United States). In the Republic of Congo, it is not on the list of prohibited drugs, but customs may have questions about its import. It is recommended to carry a prescription or medical certificate confirming the need for Nimesil.

Citramone (combination of paracetamol, caffeine, acetylsalicylic acid)

Citramone contains caffeine, a psychostimulant that is controlled in some countries. However, Citramone is not prohibited in the Republic of Congo and may be imported in reasonable quantities. To avoid problems at customs, it is advisable to have the packaging with instructions and a prescription or a note from your doctor.

Amiksin (active ingredient – tilorone)

Amiksin is not registered in many countries, such as the United States and EU countries, and is not widely recognised internationally. There is no clear information on the prohibition of this drug in the Republic of Congo, so it may raise questions from border guards. It is recommended to have a medical justification for the use of Amiksin and to keep the drug in its original packaging.

Thus, you can bring Nimesil, Citramon and Amiksin to the Republic of Congo for personal use, subject to the following requirements:

– You must have a prescription or medical certificate.

– The drugs must be in their original packaging.

– The quantity of drugs must not exceed the amount needed for the duration of the trip (usually no more than 30 days).

Practical tips for importing medicines into other countries

– Transport medicines in their original packaging.

– Keep the instructions for the drugs and, if possible, translations of the active ingredients.

– It is recommended to carry a letter from your doctor (in English or French) confirming the need to take the specified drugs.

– Do not exceed the amount of drugs necessary for your trip (no more than 30 days).

If you have any doubts about bringing medicines into the country, we recommend that you contact the Embassy of the Republic of Congo or consular offices in countries where Congo is represented (e.g. France or Belgium), or consult the customs authorities for more detailed information.
