The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MES) has launched a new digital platform to support Ukrainian students temporarily living abroad.

The Ukrainian Studies Component program allows students to combine studying at a local school with distance Ukrainian education.

Key challenges for students abroad

More than 360,000 Ukrainian children are currently studying in foreign schools, while keeping in touch with Ukrainian education through distance learning. This format causes a number of difficulties:

- Loss of connection with the Ukrainian language, culture, and history.

- Double academic load.

- Conflict of schedules between schools.

- Difficulties with reintegration into the national education system.

- Rejection of Ukrainian education in favor of foreign education due to its more convenient format.

What is the Ukrainian Studies component?

This is a shortened curriculum created specifically for children who went abroad because of the war. The program allows you to:

- Attend a local school.

- Study only key Ukrainian subjects remotely.

- Recalculate subjects studied in local schools (according to the official grading scale approved by the Ministry of Education and Science).

What subjects are included in the program?

The Ukrainian Studies component includes the following subjects:

Ukrainian language;

Ukrainian literature;

History of Ukraine;

Geography of Ukraine;

Fundamentals of Jurisprudence;

Defense of Ukraine.

This allows you to reduce your study load from about 25 to 5-8 hours per week, while maintaining contact with your homeland.

How to apply?

Since June 2, 2025, a new platform ukrainian.studies.mon.gov.ua has been operating as a “single window” for registration.

To register a child, you need to:

1. Go to the platform website.

2. Log in through id.gov.ua.

3. Create a child's profile.

4. Choose a school and class.

5. Submit an application.

Expect a response from the school within 5 business days.

According to Deputy Minister of Education Nadiia Kuzmychova, schools are ready to enroll students and start classes on September 1, 2025.
