Studying for Ukrainians in Poland: How to get a state-funded education?

Who can study for free?
Ukrainians can apply for free education at Polish universities if they:
- have a C1 level of Polish and a state certificate confirming this;
- have a Polish Card, a permanent residence permit in Poland (Karta stałego pobytu) or a PESEL UKR number.
How does the admission process work?
The admission process is competitive. However, not all universities in Poland offer free education for foreigners, so you should choose your educational institution carefully.

Which universities in Poland offer free education?
Ukrainian students can receive free education at the following leading Polish universities:
Wrocław University of Technology
Jagiellonian University
Krakow University of Economics
Lublin Polytechnic
Maria Curie-Skłodowska University
Warsaw University of Economics
In addition, students who have completed grades 9-10 can enroll in free technical colleges in Poland.
Documents required for admission
To enroll in a Polish university, Ukrainians must collect a package of documents, have them certified and apostilled. The main documents include:
- Certificate and supplement to the certificate / bachelor's degree with supplement (for master's programs);
- Medical certificate form No. 086/о;
- 4 color photographs (3.5 × 4.5 cm);
- Copies of Ukrainian and foreign passports;
- Birth certificate (for minors);
- Notarized parental consent (for minors);
- Certificate of proficiency in Polish or English;
- NMT results (if required by the selected university).
What else should you know?
Polish universities have a limit on the number of foreign students — no more than 50% of the total number of students.
If you are not applying for a state-funded place, tuition fees can range from 4,000 to 72,000 PLN per year.
Some private universities accept students without mandatory NMT results.
