A new exhibition dedicated to Crimean Tatars will open in one of Kyiv's museums: what will be on display

A new exhibition at the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life in Pirogovo is an opportunity to see and learn more about Crimean Tatar culture. The creation of the exhibition is an important step towards preserving historical memory and reviving a unique heritage that must return to Ukraine after the war ends. Find out what interesting things the museum has prepared for its visitors
The National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine in Pirogovo is preparing to open a unique exhibition that will immerse visitors in the culture and traditions of the Crimean Tatar people. This event promises to be an important step in preserving and promoting the Crimean Tatar heritage in Ukraine.
On 3 May 2025, work began on the creation of a Crimean Tatar space in the open-air museum. This was announced by the museum's press service on its official Facebook page. The locations for the future estates have already been determined, the plots have been fenced off and yew trees, symbols of Ukrainian Crimea, have been planted.
Main elements of the new exhibition
The Crimean Tatar space project in Pirogovo includes several key objects:
▪️ Nine Crimean Tatar estates that will represent the traditional architecture and way of life of Crimean Tatars from different historical periods.
▪️ A mosque with a minaret, which will become an important element of religious heritage, reflecting the spiritual traditions of the Crimean Tatar people.
▪️ A madrasah — an educational institution that served as a secondary and higher school for Muslims in Crimea. This part of the exhibition will help visitors learn more about the education system in Crimean Tatar culture.
▪️ Regional plants and architecture from all corners of Crimea, which will create the atmosphere of a real Crimean village in the Ukrainian open-air museum.
In addition, an interesting point is that the tenth farmstead will be built after the de-occupation of Crimea. This step is a symbol of the return of the peninsula to its indigenous people and an important part of the project aimed at reviving Crimean Tatar culture.

Significance of the new exhibition
The opening of the new exhibition in Pirogovo has not only cultural but also political significance. This is not just a museum project — it is a statement that the Crimean Tatar people continue to be an integral part of Ukraine's history and culture, despite the long-standing occupation of Crimea. The emergence of such a space in the Ukrainian capital demonstrates support for indigenous peoples and the restoration of their rights and cultural heritage.
