From 1 January 2025, new rules regarding the issuance and use of this insurance policy came into force in Ukraine and other countries participating in the Green Card system. Drivers can now present an electronic version of the policy on their mobile device when crossing the border. However, despite this innovation, it is recommended to carry a printed copy of the policy with you.

Electronic version of the Green Card: what has changed?

According to the new rules, the electronic Green Card insurance certificate is valid in all member countries of the system. Drivers only need to save a PDF file of the policy on their smartphone and present it when necessary. This simplifies the process and makes travel more convenient.

Despite the recognition of electronic versions of the policy, the MTIBU (Motor Transport Insurance Bureau of Ukraine) and other insurance organisations recommend that drivers carry a printed copy of the Green Card with them. This is because in some countries or in the event of technical failures, a paper version of the document may be required. In addition, having a printed policy can speed up the verification process at the border or when interacting with local law enforcement agencies.

How to print the Green Card correctly?

If you decide to print the policy, follow these recommendations:

📄 Use white A4 paper.

📄 The print should be black and white, with clear and legible text.

📄 Make sure that all the information on the policy is clearly visible and legible.

Following these simple rules will help you avoid misunderstandings when crossing the border.
