Given the political situation and martial law, the entry of Belarusian citizens into Ukraine is under increased control. Belarus is an ally of russia, which significantly affects the conditions for its citizens to enter Ukraine.

The main rules for entering Ukraine for Belarusian citizens are described below.

How to get to Ukraine from Belarus: is there a visa-free regime?

Ukraine and Belarus still have a visa-free regime, which allows citizens of Belarus to stay in Ukraine without the need to apply for a visa in advance. The visa-free regime allows citizens of Belarus to stay in Ukraine without a visa for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

However, the entry of Belarusian citizens into Ukraine is strictly controlled and checked by the Security Service of Ukraine and the Border Guard Service of Ukraine, so it is not possible to enter simply on the basis of a passport. To cross the border, citizens of Belarus need to have:

- A passport of a citizen of Belarus.

- An invitation from a citizen of Ukraine or a foreigner with a temporary or permanent residence permit in Ukraine. The invitation must be notarised.

- Documents confirming the purpose of the trip (for example, family ties with Ukrainian citizens or documents for obtaining temporary or permanent residence).

- Guarantees of sufficient financial support for the period of stay (usually a letter of guarantee from the inviting party or a document on the availability of funds).

Entry to Ukraine for Belarusians now: tighter border controls

Citizens of Belarus are receiving special attention at the border with Ukraine due to the political situation and security risks. As Belarus is an ally of the russian federation, the Ukrainian side applies enhanced border controls to citizens of this country. This is due to the need to minimise threats to national security.

The Border Guard Service and the Security Service of Ukraine carry out a more thorough check of documents and may conduct interviews with Belarusian citizens. This allows them to clarify the purpose of entry and assess the risks that a person arriving from a country allied to russia may pose. As a result, the border crossing process for Belarusians may take longer and require additional explanations.

In particular, there is a possibility that entry may be denied, and this may happen without prior explanation. Border guard officers have the right to refuse entry on the grounds of national security, even if all documents are in order.
