Train disruptions on German railways will continue in 2024. This was announced by members of the trade union representing the interests of German drivers, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Strikes in Germany will continue in 2024: how to get a refund for canceled flights 

It is noted that the conflict between the union and the main national railway operator Deutsche Bahn (DB) regarding working hours and wages leads to indefinite strikes in 2024.

The GDL union, which represents German train drivers, had earlier announced a 24-hour shutdown of public transportation, causing serious inconvenience to trains operated by Deutsche Bahn. The strikes reflect a heated dispute between the union and DB over the working conditions of the drivers.

Although the union has indicated that strikes will not be held until January 8, 2024, their impact on rail travel is expected early next year.

The main demands of the drivers include a reduction in working hours for shift workers from 38 to 35 hours per week without a reduction in pay. An agreement with employers on this issue has not yet been reached. In addition, GDL is demanding a €555 per month pay rise and a one-time payment of up to €3,000 due to inflation.

Strikes on the railways could seriously affect passengers and lead to train delays and cancellations. Information about possible inconveniences is usually provided a short time before the strike starts or even during the strike. Here are some of the possible impacts of strikes on rail passengers:

- Train delays and cancellations: strikes can lead to unpredictable delays in train traffic or even to the cancellation of certain routes.

In the event of a rail strike, it is recommended to follow the news and updates from the railway companies, possibly reschedule your trip to another time or find alternative routes and means of transportation.

How can I get a refund if rail services in Germany are canceled?

If strikes have affected your trip and you want to get compensation, you should follow these steps:

• Check for "special arrangements" or exceptions announced by Deutsche Bahn (DB) that may allow you to reschedule your trip or leave earlier.

• If you have the option, consider postponing your trip and using a ticket for a later date. Check if there are any restrictions on how long you can use the ticket.

• If you decide not to travel, check the possibility of canceling your seat reservation for free. Some companies may provide such options during strikes.

• If your train is canceled, contact Deutsche Bahn for a refund. Usually, in such cases, a full refund is provided without penalties.
