The tourism industry will recover from the effects of the pandemic in early 2024. This is stated in the report of the UN World Tourism Organization. However, it is now becoming apparent that the tastes of world travelers have changed significantly, RBC-Ukraine reports citing a press release from the State Agency for Tourism Development (SATD).

It is noted that the State Tourism Agency has identified the main tourism trends that, according to UNWTO experts, will shape the future of the industry.

The State Agency for Tourism Development has identified the main tourism trends that, according to UN WTO experts, will shape the future of the industry.

The predicted tourism trends of the future include:

• Environmental sustainability and comprehensive promotion of environmental initiatives. "Environmental sustainability" is no longer just a slogan, but an urgent need. Today's travelers prefer destinations that emphasize environmental preservation, responsible use of resources, and support for local communities.

• The popularity of new tourist destinations has increased. Travelers are constantly looking for new, unique experiences, so they are increasingly choosing lesser-known countries and regions.

• Development of domestic tourism. High inflation and rising fuel prices lead to higher transportation and accommodation costs, so modern tourists often prefer to travel within their own country. This allows them to learn more about local culture, traditions and cuisine.

• Gastronomic tourism. In today's world, local cultural heritage is becoming an important magnet for tourists, particularly in the field of gastronomy and winemaking. This provides an opportunity not only to promote lesser-known destinations, but also to support the local economy and preserve traditions.

• Ecological tourism and visits to protected areas. Tourists increasingly prefer a quiet vacation in natural protected areas, observing the local nature and traditional cultures that prevail in these natural sites.

• Adventure tourism. Young tourists are increasingly interested in spectacular activities such as mountaineering, rafting, and trekking, which provide an unforgettable experience.

It is emphasized that during their travels, tourists usually enjoy three main components: exoticism, outdoor activities, and nature.

In particular, the head of the State Agency for Tourism Development, Mariana Oleskiv, emphasizes that the trends identified by the UNWTO experts fit perfectly into Ukrainian reality.

"The war has caused a large movement of those categories of Ukrainians who would otherwise never have visited the unique locations of central and western Ukraine, choosing instead Turkey, Egypt or Europe. And it turns out that our ancient culture is equal among equals," says the head of SATD.
