The Czech Republic is planning to make further amendments to the Lex Ukrajina law on assistance to refugees from Ukraine who have found shelter in the country.
According to the amendments, compensation for hosting Ukrainians in their own homes will be extended until the end of June. In particular, those who provide refugees with housing with a place to rest, cook, use restrooms and access to drinking water will receive compensation from the government - solidarity aid.
Please note! If the Senate votes in favor of the amendments and the President signs them, the new rules will come into force in April 2023. Except for the changes regarding solidarity payments and financial assistance, which will take effect from July 2023.
What will change for Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic?
Currently, the owner receives 5,000 CZK per month for one refugee in a separate apartment, 9,000 CZK for two, and 15,000 CZK for 5 or more people. Those who take in refugees in their homes (up to 3 people) can now receive 3000 CZK per person.
Starting in July, the regulation on the payment of solidarity aid will be adjusted.
According to the new rules, the funds will be paid only to those who have sheltered refugees in their homes.
In addition, in June 2023, people will receive a social solidarity payment.
The following changes will apply to Ukrainians starting in July:
• an individual who has provided housing for free to a refugee with temporary protection and who shares this housing with him/her (i.e. lives together) is entitled to the payment;
• if refugees are provided with the entire apartment, the cost of housing is taken into account in the financial assistance;
Also, according to the amendments, refugees will not be entitled to state social benefits, accommodation payments and housing subsidies.
We remind you! Citizens of Ukraine can stay in the Czech Republic with their own car. However, the country has set certain requirements for personal vehicles of refugees. Read more about whether you need to register your car in the Czech Republic and exchange your Ukrainian license here.
