The Czech Republic has officially confirmed the extension of the temporary protection program for Ukrainians. Currently, the program is valid until March 31, 2026 - it is until this period that Ukrainians can enjoy all the rights granted by the Czech Republic Ukraine refugee status. However, given that in July 2025, the Council of the European Union officially approved the extension of temporary protection until March 2027, it is predicted that the Czech Republic will also extend this period.

The following categories of persons can receive temporary protection status:

Where to apply for temporary protection in the Czech Republic?
Upon arrival in the Czech Republic, Ukrainians should contact one of the Regional Assistance Centers for Ukraine, where they provide basic consultations, housing assistance, and initial registration. You can find the addresses at the link.
Also, within three days of arrival, it is necessary to register your temporary residence with the Foreigners' Police. This procedure is mandatory: in case of violation of the registration rules, a fine of up to 150 euros may be imposed. In order to complete the registration without problems, it is important to have a note about crossing the Ukrainian or external EU border in your passport.

How to extend temporary protection status in the Czech Republic?
Registration for the extension of temporary protection was done online through the portal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – OAMP Czech Republic (Odbor azylové a migrační politiky). The deadline for online registration was March 15, 2025. If you do not register online by this date, your temporary protection will expire on March 31, 2025.
After online registration, you received an email confirming the date of your appointment. The email also contained a preliminary extension of your temporary protection until September 30, 2025 and a list of documents that you should bring with you to the appointment.
After that, Ukrainians had to come to the OAMP office in person to receive an updated visa sticker with temporary protection extended until March 31, 2026.
What should I do if I did not register for the extension of temporary protection?
If you have not registered online by March 15, 2025, your temporary protection has expired. Your right to receive benefits related to temporary protection, such as humanitarian assistance, housing assistance, free access to the labor market or access to health insurance, has also been terminated.
You have the opportunity to reapply for temporary protection. Repeated applications for temporary protection are submitted to the Regional Assistance Center for Ukraine (Krajské asistenční centrum pomoci Ukraině – KACPU) under the same conditions as the initial application for temporary protection; it will be assessed whether the person meets the conditions for temporary protection.
Repeated applications for temporary protection do not include the possibility of reapplying for certain types of time-limited benefits.
From September 8, 2025, the official registration for a new special long-term residence permit for refugees with temporary protection will start in the Czech Republic. Read about the conditions and requirements in this article.

2. A valid biometric passport (if available).
3. A document confirming your stay in Ukraine until 02/24/2022.
This can be: a border crossing stamp, confirmation of humanitarian crossing or another document issued in your name, which certifies your residence in Ukraine.

If you do not live in a shelter, you must provide a document confirming housing:

Material and humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians in the Czech Republic
Humanitarian assistance in the Czech Republic can be received by all refugees from Ukraine who have a temporary protection visa. It is provided in two forms:
- Basic financial assistance - covers basic needs (food, clothing, transportation, etc.).
- Housing assistance - depends on the living conditions and status of the person.
The amount of assistance during the first five months of payment is:
- adult - 4,860 CZK;
- child - 3,490 CZK;
- child with a disability - up to 5,235 CZK;
- adult with a disability - up to 7,290 CZK.
After 150 days, the amount of the payment may be reduced to the subsistence minimum (3,130 CZK), if the person is unemployed and does not belong to vulnerable categories.
Who is a vulnerable person in the Czech Republic?
These are children under 18, students under 26, pregnant women, pensioners 65+, people with disabilities and those who care for them.
It is worth noting that since July 2025, new rules for people with disabilities have come into effect in the Czech Republic: instead of fixed amounts, an individual assessment of the level of independence is in effect, which is carried out by the Czech Institute for Health Assessment (IPZS).
The amount of assistance is determined based on the results of the assessment, which covers mobility, self-service, communication, social activity and other daily skills.
