Planning a trip to Finland? For many Ukrainians who have a biometric passport, a short trip to this northern country does not require a visa. Understanding the visa requirements is the key to a smooth and successful trip. Errors in documents or choosing the wrong type of visa can lead to delays or even refusal.

When exactly do Ukrainians need a visa to Finland, what documents to prepare, how to avoid common mistakes, and why it is worth turning to professionals — we will tell you more in this article.

When do Ukrainians need a visa to enter Finland?

Ukrainian citizens who have a biometric passport can travel to Finland, a member of the Schengen Area, without a visa for up to 90 days during each 180-day period. This applies to trips for tourism, private or business purposes. This regime greatly simplifies the organisation of short trips, particularly for leisure or meetings with partners.

However, there are exceptions when a visa is still required:

Long-term stay. If you plan to stay in Finland for more than 90 days, you will need to apply for a national D visa or a residence permit. This applies to trips for study, employment, medical treatment or other long-term purposes.

Purpose of the trip. If the trip has a specific purpose — work, study, family reunification, etc. — you must apply for the appropriate visa. Such trips are not covered by the visa-free regime and require a separate residence permit.
