The Norwegian authorities have changed the rules for Ukrainian refugees, in particular, by reducing some benefits. These changes also include new requirements for living conditions. This is stated on the website of the Norwegian government.

Staying in reception centers with animals

An important change concerns refugees who arrive at reception centers with animals. From now on, the country will not cover the costs of animal care, so new residents can no longer take their pets with them to the National Arrival Center or to refugee reception centers. However, this change does not apply to those who are already living in the centers with their pets while waiting for further resettlement.

Financial assistance

In addition, in order to receive a one-time financial payment of 93 thousand kroner (or 8,200 euros), a person must have lived in Norway for at least a year. This payment is aimed at assisting in the adaptation and integration of newly arrived citizens.

Employment in the country

Refugees will also be encouraged to find employment in Norway. Ukrainian migrants are obliged to devote at least 15 hours a week to work. They can work full-time or part-time.

Rules for newly arrived Ukrainians

Ukrainians who intend to apply for asylum can register in five cities across the country: Kirkenes, Trondheim, Bergen, Jaren, and Torp. In most cases, you will need to contact the police to arrange a time for registration. If the county where you arrived cannot register you, you will need to get to the National Registration Center.

Since January 1 of this year, migrants who wish to obtain a place in a refugee shelter must register their application at the National Registration Center in the municipality of Rode. It is important to note that if you do not register at the National Registration Center, you will not be offered a place in the asylum.

However, if you arrive in another city in Norway, you will not be offered accommodation or transportation to the National Registration Center. This means that refugees will have to pay for their own travel to the National Registration Center.

However, unaccompanied minors and persons in particularly difficult situations may receive assistance. Exceptions may also be made in cases where there is a threat to human life and health.

It is important to note that the requirement to register at the National Registration Center does not apply to asylum seekers arriving in Norway through the Storskug border crossing.
