The international checkpoint “Ustyluh-Zosin” on the Ukrainian-Polish border will continue to operate with restrictions until the end of December 2025. The reason is repair work that has been ongoing since May. This was officially announced by the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

During the reconstruction period, traffic is partially restricted: some lanes are closed, which significantly affects the speed of crossing the border.

What restrictions are in place at the Ustyluh-Zosin checkpoint?

According to the Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service in the Volyn region, which is the customer for the repair work, the following is currently in effect:

● Not all lanes are open.

● Drivers should expect longer queues and delays.

● The infrastructure of the checkpoint is partially operational.

Therefore, when planning your trip, be sure to check the situation at the border in real time. This can be done using the interactive map of the State Customs Service.

Why have queues increased at Ustyluh-Zosin?

This crossing point has now become one of the busiest on the western border. The main reasons are:

● the summer travel season — an increase in the number of passengers going on vacation;

● restrictions at Yagodyn — due to the prolonged ban on passenger cars, the nearest border crossing point, Yagodyn, is inaccessible to many travelers;

● an increase in irregular bus services, including tourist buses.

All this leads to overloading of the Ustyluh infrastructure and increased waiting times.

How to avoid queues at the border with Poland: tips for travelers

To minimize delays when crossing the border, the State Customs Service recommends:

● plan your route in advance;

● choose alternative crossing points — even if they are located further from your place of residence;

● monitor traffic congestion using official services;

● check all documents in your car, including the Green Card, which is mandatory when traveling abroad in your own vehicle.

Where are the shortest queues at the border with Poland?

The shortest queues at the border with Poland are usually at the Nizhankovychi and Smilnytsia checkpoints. The longest queues are traditionally at Krakivets and Shehyni.

What documents are required to cross the border by car?

Before leaving the country, make sure you have all the necessary documents:

● a valid biometric passport (or a regular passport + visa);

● vehicle registration certificate;

● international driver's license;

● Green Card — required for travel within the EU.

In addition, please note that the Polish side may check:

● the presence of travel insurance — border guards have the right to request a policy when leaving the EU, so it is better to take out insurance for yourself and your passengers in advance (you can do this quickly on the Visit Ukraine website);

● confirmation of the purpose of the trip and the availability of financial means;

● passport validity — you may not be allowed to enter EU countries if your foreign passport expires (for information on how long your passport must be valid to travel abroad, follow the link).
