What and when may change for Ukrainian students in Poland
Last week, a meeting of high-ranking officials took place as part of a working visit by a Ukrainian delegation to Warsaw. At the meeting, it was announced that the Polish side supports the introduction of Ukrainian as a second foreign language in Polish schools. The possibility of including Ukrainian in the list of languages for the eighth-grade exam, which is mandatory for transition to the next level of secondary education, was also discussed.
This issue may be taken into account as part of the planned reform of school education in Poland, which is scheduled for 2026-2027.
Programmes for teaching the Ukrainian language are being developed by Pavlo Levchuk, associate professor at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MES) has stated that it is actively working with Polish partners to ensure that Ukrainian children abroad can not only maintain ties with their native culture, but also study Ukrainian studies subjects.
