In 2025, Ukraine will expand the functionality of its automatic traffic violation detection system—cameras will begin recording vehicles running red lights. This was announced by the Ukrainian Automobile Manufacturers Association (Ukravtoprom).

What will change?

The automatic traffic violation control system, which has been successfully recording speeding violations for several years, is now expanding its functions.

In particular, testing and configuration of existing cameras to record red light violations has already begun.

According to Anush Biloshitskaya, head of the automatic recording department at the Center for Infrastructure and Technology of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the existing technical systems are currently being adapted. This indicates that no additional equipment will be installed, and therefore the changes may come into effect quite quickly.

What is the penalty for violations?

Currently, the fine for driving through a red light in Ukraine is 510 hryvnia.

In the event of automatic detection of a violation, drivers will be sent a fine by mail or electronically.

Earlier it was reported that on May 1, Ukraine began installing new traffic lights as part of a comprehensive approach to improving road safety.
