Easter is traditionally one of the busiest travel periods in Europe. Family visits, short vacations, and a desire for a change of scenery all lead to crowds at airports, long queues, flight delays, and a strain on staff.
In 2025, the situation may be even more complicated: mass strikes are planned in many European countries during Catholic and Orthodox Easter, which this year coincides with April 20.

Problem areas on the European air map
According to Schengen.News, tourists planning flights to France, Italy and Spain should be especially careful, as the biggest disruptions are expected there:
France: a nationwide strike by air traffic controllers is scheduled for April 18-19 and April 25. There is a risk of its extension.
Italy: On April 19, a 24-hour strike is expected to affect all major airports in the country.
Spain: from April 20 to April 30, air traffic controllers will go on strike in Madrid and Barcelona in turn.
There is also a high probability of strikes in Germany and Belgium, although the exact dates have not yet been announced.

Queues at the EU border: a warning for travelers
In addition to air travel, there is an increased workload at land border crossings. On the eve of Easter, passenger traffic at the Ukrainian border increased significantly, and the upward trend continues.
Andriy Demchenko, a spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, noted during the telethon that a significant increase in the number of passengers is currently being recorded at the entrance to Ukraine. While on weekdays about 70,000 people usually crossed the border, on April 16 this figure reached 95,000, and on weekends it exceeded 100,000.
About 85% of all travelers are Ukrainian citizens returning home. In this regard, border guards warn of possible queues at checkpoints, especially
Shehyni
Krakivets
Rava-Ruska.
At the same time, less traffic is observed at the checkpoints:
Nyzhankovychi
Smilnytsia
Hrushev
It should be noted that repairs are underway at Shehyni checkpoint, so entry to Poland is currently restricted there.
Those planning to travel during the Easter period should
- monitor the situation at the borders in real time;
- choose less busy checkpoints in advance;
- have time to spare in case of queues or delays;
- regularly check the status of flights and use mobile apps for notifications.
