In 2025, crossing the Ukrainian-Polish border remains a topical issue for many citizens. Given the political situation and the growing flow of travellers, it is important to be aware of the border crossing points, their opening hours, queues and border crossing rules.

Checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Polish border

There are 18 checkpoints on the border between Ukraine and Poland, 9 of which are automobile checkpoints. Below is a list of the main road border crossing points:

Important! As of April 2025, the Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint is operating in a limited mode due to repairs that are scheduled to be completed by May.

Rules for crossing the Ukrainian-Polish border

How to enter Ukraine from Poland?

Foreign citizens and stateless persons must comply with the established customs regulations when crossing the border of Ukraine. Basic requirements for documents:

- International passport. The document must be valid for the entire period of stay in Ukraine. Citizens of Turkey and Georgia can enter with ID cards.

- A visa is required only if otherwise provided by law or if a visa-free regime is not established with the country.

- Confirmation of the purpose of the trip (documents confirming family ties, invitations, hotel reservations, etc.)

- Confirmation of sufficient funds (cash, bank cards, statements, a letter of guarantee from the host country).

- A green card to enter the country by car. It is also recommended to take out a voluntary Mini CASCO car insurance policy for additional protection on the roads of Ukraine. You can apply for insurance on the Visit Ukraine portal here.

- An insurance policy issued by an insurance company registered in Ukraine or a foreign company with a representative office in Ukraine or contractual relations (assistance).

How to leave Ukraine for Poland?

The following documents are required to cross the border in 2025:

- Internal passport.

- Foreign passport.

For Ukrainians crossing the border by car, it is necessary to have:

- A driving licence that meets international standards.

- A technical passport with information in Cyrillic and Latin.

- Identification mark of Ukraine on the car (UA).

- State number plate on the car.

- Green Card - an international insurance policy for motorists, which is mandatory when travelling abroad. You can apply for a policy on the Visit Ukraine portal at the link.

Important! Travelling abroad is a responsibility. To protect yourself and your family, take out health insurance with international coverage before you leave. Such a policy guarantees access to medical care in any situation while outside Ukraine.
