The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has amended the Traffic Rules to significantly expand the list of vehicles entitled to use lanes for route vehicles. The innovations are aimed at optimising traffic and reducing congestion, which is especially important for large cities.

🚗 Do you need car insurance?

On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can choose several types of insurance for your vehicle, including MTPL and Mini Hull insurance. And for travelling abroad, we also have a Green Card available.

How have the rules changed?

Now motorcycle and moped drivers are allowed to drive in public transport lanes if it is in line with the direction of the general flow. However, it is worth noting that not all types of motorised vehicles fall under this rule. The following vehicles are exceptions:

▪️ Motorcycles with a side trailer;

▪️ Motorised sidecars;

▪️ Three-wheeled vehicles.

This decision is part of the integration of European experience, where such measures are already actively used to improve the transport situation in megacities.

Details of the changes

As of 2 April 2025, the relevant updates to the Traffic Rules have not yet been fully implemented. You should also pay attention to the changes regarding information and directional signs, such as:

❗️ 5.8 ‘Road with a lane for route vehicles’

❗️ 5.11 ‘Lane for route vehicles’

According to the innovations, mopeds and motorcycles will now be able to move more freely in these lanes, which should reduce travel time and reduce congestion in cities.

Previously, only taxis, cyclists and emergency vehicles could use public transport lanes.

Don't forget about fines! Violation of the rules of the public transport lane is punishable by a fine of UAH 680. This applies to both motorcycle and moped drivers and other road users who violate the rules for using these lanes.
