Green Card - what is it and for which countries is it required?

‘A Green Card is an international insurance policy that confirms that a car is insured against civil liability for damage caused to third parties in the event of an accident. It is a mandatory insurance for all foreign drivers entering Ukraine.

A Green Card is required for drivers whose cars are registered in countries that have signed an international agreement on motor third party liability insurance. This policy is valid in most European countries and in some other states.

Can I enter Ukraine without a Green Card?

It is impossible to enter the territory of Ukraine without a Green Card. In the absence of this policy, the car may not be allowed to enter or the driver will be asked to take out temporary insurance directly at the border, which will significantly complicate the process and increase the cost of the trip.

Where and how to get a Green Card?

‘The Green Card is issued in the country of registration of the car, i.e. by a local insurer. The process is simple: you need to provide documents for the car, personal data of the driver and pay the cost of the policy. In most countries, this can be done either at the insurer's office or online.
