In December 2024, the total number of Ukrainian refugees in Europe increased by 25,590 people (+0.6%), reaching 4.26 million. However, in three EU countries, there is a reverse trend - Ukrainians have begun to leave their territory.

What countries are Ukrainians leaving?

The largest number of refugees left Denmark - 1,995 people (-5.1% of the total number in the country). Italy was followed by 1,310 Ukrainian citizens (-0.8%), and France by 595 people (-1%).

At the same time, the most attractive countries for Ukrainians - Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic - have seen an increase in the number of refugees.

Where are the numbers of Ukrainian refugees growing?

Germany accepted an additional 8,830 people (+0.8%), maintaining its status as the main country for Ukrainians.

Poland accepted another 3,705 refugees (+0.4%).

The Czech Republic granted temporary protection to 3,435 new Ukrainian citizens over the month (+0.9%).

In general, Germany sheltered the largest number of Ukrainians - 1,161,450 people (27.3% of the total number in the EU). Poland is in second place with 991,630 people (23.3%), and the Czech Republic is in third place with 388,625 refugees (9.1%).

Where are there the most Ukrainians in relation to the population?

In terms of the number of refugees per thousand inhabitants, the leaders are:

1. Czech Republic - 35.7

2. Poland - 27.1

3. Estonia - 25.8

For comparison, the EU average is 9.5 Ukrainian refugees per thousand inhabitants.

The composition of Ukrainian refugees

44.8% - adult women

31.9% - children

23.2% - adult men

Over 98.3% of all beneficiaries of temporary protection in the EU are Ukrainians.
