Russian dictator vladimir putin has signed a decree on the foundations of the state policy of nuclear deterrence. In doing so, he has approved a new nuclear doctrine for russia that poses a threat even to non-nuclear-armed states.

The principle of the new nuclear doctrine

The document states that nuclear weapons are a last resort to protect russia's sovereignty. It also specifies the parameters that allow the use of nuclear weapons.

Now, the russian army can use nuclear weapons in case of aggression by third countries against Belarus.

Conditions for the use of nuclear weapons by russia

The nuclear doctrine has expanded the category of states and military alliances subject to nuclear deterrence. The list of military threats that require such actions to neutralise has been supplemented.

The doctrine also states that the russian federation may use nuclear weapons in the event of a ‘critical threat’ to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of itself and Belarus.

Among the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons, russia has named the ‘launch of ballistic missiles’ from russian territory.

According to the doctrine, the decision to use nuclear weapons must be made by the kremlin leader himself.

The document expresses confidence that ‘the readiness and determination of the russian Federation to use nuclear weapons will ensure nuclear deterrence.’

Russia has a pretext for a nuclear strike on Ukraine

It is worth noting that recently, US President Joe Biden tacitly allowed Ukraine to strike a part of russian territory with US ATACMS ballistic missiles.

The russian dictator's spokesman, Dmitry Pesok, has already stated that ‘the use of Western non-nuclear missiles by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against russia under the new doctrine may result in a nuclear response.’

As a reminder, 19 November 2024 marked exactly 1,000 days since russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine.
