In the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine and constant air attacks on peaceful cities, it is important to know how to behave properly during kamikaze drone attacks. The National Police of Ukraine shares a number of recommendations that will help save your life and health.
Signs of an approaching kamikaze drone
Kamikaze drone engines emit distinctive sounds: as they approach, you may hear a noise similar to the engine of a moped or chainsaw. This sound is the first signal that you need to take cover.
How to act during a kamikaze drone attack
1. Follow the rules of behaviour during an air raid:
When you hear an air raid warning, immediately go to the nearest shelter. This may be:
▪️ Specialised shelter (bomb shelter).
▪️ Basements of residential buildings.
▪️ Underground car parks.
▪️ Underpasses.
▪️ If shelters are not available, use the ‘two-wall rule’ to minimise the risk of injury: look for a place where you are separated by at least two walls from the potential blast centre.
2. Do not stay in vehicles
During a kamikaze drone attack, it is extremely dangerous to stay in a vehicle. You should leave the vehicle as soon as possible, run off the road and hide in a safe place.

3. Avoid spreading information about the drone flight
It is important to refrain from posting photos and videos related to drone flights or shootdowns on social media. Such information can be used by the enemy. If you have any useful information about drone movements, please report it to the National Police by calling 112.
Drone attacks on Ukrainian cities have become more frequent
According to British intelligence, in October alone, Russia launched about 2,000 unmanned aerial vehicles for unilateral attacks in Ukrainian regions, which is about 700 more than in September.
It is noted that the number of drone attacks has been steadily increasing since mid-2024, as Russia has been investing in the production of UAVs.
During the first week of November, the intensity of Russian launches remained high and in line with the last few weeks.
