The management of Uklon is confident that the Ukrainian population has a certain demand for taxi service during curfew. Here are the conditions and chances of resuming the operation of Uklon online taxis at night.

Will Uklon work at night? The company's CEO answers

“We have official requests from local administrations that ask us to return the service to work during the curfew. There are no specific deadlines yet, it all depends on communication with local, military, and law enforcement agencies,” Uklon CEO Sergey Grishkov told Forbes.

According to the company's CEO, the service may resume operations at night in cities in western Ukraine. This issue is currently being discussed with state, local, military, and law enforcement agencies. The CEO adds that the operation of the Uklon app at night is the company's position formed at the request of users.

Earlier, we wrote that under the new rules, Ukrainian drivers are required to have Polish licenses to work in taxis in Poland.

“It's a large number of trains that arrive at train stations at night. It was also a way to get to the hospital at night,” explains Hryshkov of the company's current initiative to resume nighttime service.

The Uklon scandal in March 2024

At one time, Uklon was already the only ridesharing service in Ukraine that operated during curfews during the full-scale invasion. For this, the company was repeatedly criticized by the media, including the well-known telegram channel Joker, which in February-March 2024 accused Uklon of a number of sins in its posts: tax evasion through Cypriot offshore companies, unreasonably high prices, and cooperation with the Fondy service, whose activities, according to Joker, are linked to the Russian Federation.

Why was Uklon banned from working during the curfew?

At the time, the company explained its work at night by the fact that people in emergency situations need to call a car, while officially denying that it had violated the curfew. Eventually, on March 7, 2024, the National Police of Ukraine asked Uklon to stop curfew rides, and on March 14, 2024, the company limited the service to nighttime hours.

At the same time, in March, the co-founder of the company, Dmitry Dubrovsky, also explained the operation of the service at night. The businessman stated that Uklon is primarily an online platform that, by law, should not restrict its activities during curfews and cannot simply be turned off. However, the Uklon team then went to meet the law enforcement officers.
