Green Card: insurance for a truck travelling abroad

The Green Card is a mandatory international insurance policy for all cars, including trucks. The document is required when travelling abroad for all vehicles registered in Ukraine. Without a valid policy, it is impossible to cross the border, because when crossing the border, a border guard will check the availability of the policy by scanning the unique QR code.

If you have a Green Card, the insurance company will indemnify you for any damage that may be caused abroad by a car that has a valid policy. It's important to remember that damage caused to third parties is covered, but the coverage does not apply to the person responsible for the accident. This means that if you hit someone else's car abroad, the insurance company will pay money to the other party to the accident, not you.

The Green Card relieves drivers of the need to worry about insurance when driving through several countries in transit, as the policy is valid in all member states of the Green Card agreement, namely in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

From the beginning of 2025, the price of the Green Card will no longer be fixed. This means that insurance companies will have the right to set their own prices. Therefore, the price of a Green Card for a truck now depends not only on the term of the policy, but also on the chosen insurer.

It is better to buy insurance online, as it is quick and easy. The process of obtaining a Green Card on the Visit Ukraine portal is as simple as possible and takes only a few minutes. To buy a Green Card online on the Visit Ukraine website, you need to follow a few simple steps.

1. Go to the link.

2. Click on the ‘Order policy’ button.

3. Select the type of vehicle, region/country (where you are travelling to), the insurance period (your stay abroad) and click on the ‘Calculate cost’ button.

4. Select the insurance agent from whom you want to purchase a Green Card and click on the ‘Purchase’ button.

5. Fill in the form with the details of the insured person and the vehicle.

6. Confirm the details and agree to the terms and conditions of the contract.

7. Pay for the policy in a convenient way and receive electronic insurance by e-mail.

Please note! The Green Card online becomes valid the day after the insurance is purchased. This means that it is not possible to purchase a policy ‘for today’. Please take this into account when planning your trip.
