The Ukrainian energy system is showing signs of stabilization. Yuriy Boyko, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of NPC Ukrenergo, said on Kyiv TV channel that the country can manage with minimal restrictions or no power outages in the next three months.

Main reasons for stabilization: what helped reduce the capacity deficit?

Power engineers predicted the current situation back in May. Lower temperatures and lower electricity consumption contribute to the relative balance of the power system. According to Boyko, if there are no external influences, such as rocket attacks or a significant increase in air temperature, any restrictions, including for the population, will be insignificant.

In addition, as you know, a nuclear power unit was connected to the grid ahead of schedule, adding 1000 MW of capacity. This significantly affected the stability of the power system and improved the situation with power outages. At the end of July, another NPP unit was connected, further reducing the electricity shortage.

At the same time, the situation was also improved by restoring local critical infrastructure. For example, Kyiv has restored two-thirds of its own generating capacity damaged by russian missile attacks. The Kyiv City State Administration also noted that in the near future they also plan to decentralize the electricity and heat production system by building small and medium-sized thermal power plants.

Will there be power outages in August and fall?

The Ukrainian power system has every chance of remaining stable in the next three months, provided there are no external influences. The connection of new power units and the restoration of damaged capacities will help improve the situation.

However, despite the stabilization, there is still a risk of external factors that could affect the operation of the power system. In the event of rocket attacks or a significant increase in temperature, stabilization blackouts may be applied.
