Due to martial law, a curfew was introduced to maintain law and order in Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. This restriction continues to apply in 2024.
According to the rules, it is forbidden to be outside and in public places at this time, but there are certain exceptions.
Let's talk about what a curfew is and why you shouldn't be afraid of it.
What is curfew?
Curfew is a period during which people are prohibited from being on the street and in other public places without specially issued passes and certificates.
In most cities of Ukraine, restrictions apply between 00:00 and 05:00, for example:
- Kyiv and Kyiv region: 00:00 – 05:00.
- Lviv and Lviv region: 00:00 – 05:00.
- Odesa and Odesa region: 00:00 - 05:00.
- Ivano-Frankivsk and Ivano-Frankivsk region: 00:00 – 05:00
- Uzhhorod - Zakarpattia Oblast is the only one in Ukraine where no restrictions have been established. Here, people can be outside at any time.
Depending on the region, the duration of the curfew may vary, see the schedule by region at the link.
Importantly! If, during the curfew, an air raid warning is announced in the settlement, citizens should take their identity documents and go to the nearest shelter. That is, in case of missile danger, it is allowed to go outside at any time to get to a safe place.

Who enforces the curfew?
Checking documents and, accordingly, establishing the legality of being on the streets and in other public places during the curfew is the authority of patrol policemen.
We talked in detail about the safety rules and which territories Ukraine is forbidden to visit earlier.
How does public transport work during the curfew?
Public transport does not operate during the curfew in populated areas. However, this does not apply to trains, they run according to their schedule. In addition, metro stations in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Kryvyi Rih remain available to citizens as a 24-hour shelter.
Importantly! If your train arrives after curfew, stay at the station. If you have a travel ticket, you will get access to the waiting room. After buying a night train ticket, arrive at the station before 00:00 to avoid problems.
Why should you not be afraid of curfew?
In fact, the curfew is not scary at all, it will not cause you significant discomfort while visiting Ukraine, and it is quite possible to observe it. It is enough just to stay at home at the specified time. Considering it's only a few hours into the night, it'll be pretty easy to do. Just rest from a long day at your hotel, and in the morning, when the curfew period ends, you can go on to explore Ukraine.
When traveling to Ukraine under martial law, it is worth taking care of an insurance policy that covers the indemnification of war-related risks. The policy covers combat and war-related injuries. Military risk insurance is a guarantee of your protected stay on the territory of Ukraine. Take out a reliable policy quickly and easily using the link.
What to see in Ukraine?
Ukraine is a colorful, fantastic and very interesting country that amazes and amazes. The number of sights and tourist spots in the state is so large that you can explore every corner of it again and again. Choose a city, a route and go on a new fantastic journey.
- Kyiv is one of the oldest capitals of Europe. In 2024, Kyiv turned 1,542 years old. The streets of the city have almost 2,000 monuments of nature, history and culture. You can explore Kyiv and its long history during the Tour of Ancient Kyiv. Accompanied by a professional guide, tourists will visit the main sights of the capital: the Golden Gate, St. Sophia's and St. Michael's Cathedrals, Andriyivsky Uzviz, and get to know the old part of the city - Starokyivska Gora and Podol.
Also, while in Kyiv, we advise you to visit the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra - a Kyiv Orthodox monastery complex. It is one of the largest Christian centers of Ukraine and Eastern Europe, as well as a landmark of history and architecture. The monastery is also known for its caves, where the relics of saints who lived here long ago have been miraculously preserved. Those relics also have healing power.
- Ivano-Frankivsk is a city with more than 350 years of history. Many tourists who come here are impressed by the successful combination of history and modernity reflected in the architecture, as well as its amazing atmosphere. Get acquainted with the sights of all periods of the history of Ivano-Frankivsk and explore local traditions during an interesting walk. Also visit one of the cozy restaurants in Frankivsk to enjoy local cuisine.

- Lviv is a truly amazing city of Ukraine, but it looks most dreamy and fantastic in the evening - illuminated streets, illuminated houses and churches. So I want to hear exciting love stories here. And it is quite possible - you just need to go for a walk around Lviv in the evening. During excursions, you can discover something completely different, new and mysterious. This evening walk will have a little bit of everything: a little history, some mysticism, to some extent architecture and, of course, some Lviv love stories.
The architecture of Lviv is impressive, we should not forget that the Austrian period, which lasted almost 150 years and made a great contribution to the architectural appearance of Lviv, was an important stage in its development. From 1772 to 1918, most of the medieval defense structures were dismantled, replaced by new streets, houses and squares. Lviv residents and guests of the city live or work in luxurious Austrian houses even today.
- Odesa is a warm and hospitable city that conquers visitors with its bright sea, attractive architecture, cheerful character, delicious cuisine and a slightly specific accent.
As in any port city, many different nationalities lived together in Odessa - Greeks, Italians, Ukrainians, Turks, Albanians and Jews. This is probably why Odesa is so colorful and attractive. Everyone who visits here at least once will definitely fall in love with this Black Sea pearl.
You can get to know the city a little closer during a sightseeing tour of Odessa.
The history, culture and nature of Ukraine are interesting and unusual, able to captivate and surprise even the most demanding tourists. A trip here will give you only pleasant emotions and impressions. Therefore, you should not postpone your vacation here, even under curfew conditions.
