The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine reported that the other day they held an online meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of Lithuania. During the meeting, they discussed the conditions for continued support of Ukrainian students and the further development of joint solutions. We tell you what the officials managed to agree on.

The Natolin Fellowship program offers Ukrainians a unique opportunity to get a quality education in Europe, details in this article.

Cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania in matters of education

Lithuania is one of those partner countries with which Ukraine continues to cooperate within the framework of the Single European Higher Education Area.

Considering that the war in our country continues and creates new challenges every day, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovii, appealed to the Latvian partners with a request to "maintain all current support programs both for those Ukrainian pupils and students who are already in Lithuania, and for possible new arrivals in the future".

For her part, the Minister of Education, Science and Sports of Lithuania Mrs. Radvile Morkunaite-Mikulenene emphasized that "Ukrainian pupils and students who are already in Lithuania will have unchanged conditions of support."

How will Lithuania continue to support Ukrainian students?

As part of the agreements, Lithuania will continue to support Ukrainian students, in particular:

1. For Ukrainian students who are currently studying in Lithuanian institutions of higher education, the conditions of study and support will remain unchanged until the completion of their studies.

2. Ukrainian students currently studying in Lithuanian schools will be able to enter higher education institutions of Lithuania on equal terms with Lithuanian students. Additionally, Ukrainian applicants will not need to take the Lithuanian language exam.

"This creates additional opportunities for Ukrainian students in Lithuania. Now they have the opportunity not only to enter according to quotas, the number of which is limited, but to enter places according to the general competition, which are many times more. All the more so since Lithuanian higher education institutions have almost the largest number of English-language bachelor's programs in Europe. The Lithuanian side has found a way to give our students better opportunities to obtain higher education, and we are grateful for such steps," said Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mykhailo Vynnytskyi.

3. For Ukrainian students who are in Lithuania, but continue to study remotely in Ukrainian schools, as well as for master's students, special scholarships for admission to Lithuanian higher education institutions have been developed. Within the framework of the meeting, the ministers agreed to continue the search for opportunities to increase the number of such scholarships, as well as to prioritize applicants from Ukraine.

How to get to Ukraine from Lithuania in 2024, we told earlier.

However, despite the active work to attract Ukrainian pupils and students to the Lithuanian education system, the Ministry of Education and Culture urges Ukrainian children abroad to study in local schools and at the same time continue to study the Ukrainian curriculum.

We remind you that starting in 2022, Lithuania allowed Ukrainians who were forced to move because of the war to study at their higher education institutions for free. In 2024, the state continued to compensate Ukrainian students who have already entered the country's higher education institutions. Currently, more than 1,000 Ukrainians are getting an education in local institutions.
