The Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution "On Timekeeping in Ukraine". This means that the country cancels the change of time from winter to summer. Here's what it means and what time Ukrainians will now live by. 

According to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, 261 MPs voted in favour of the resolution.

Why did you decide to cancel daylight saving time?

The resolution was registered in parliament in autumn 2020. At the time, the MPs explained that its adoption was aimed at protecting public health, as, according to most scientists and doctors, the annual change of clocks "has a number of negative consequences, causes a significant deterioration in the health of citizens during the period of adaptation to daylight saving time and winter time, and even "leads to chronic diseases".

The MPs also argued that the changes were justified by the fact that annual daylight saving time is currently used in about 60 countries, while 140 countries have either never used seasonal time or have abandoned this practice.

Thus, the law will come into force three months after its official promulgation, and the Cabinet of Ministers will have to amend bylaws in accordance with the law within two months.

What time will Ukrainians live by?

According to the adopted regulations, this year, on the last Sunday of October, Ukraine will still switch to winter time, and there will be no daylight saving time from 2025.

Thus, the clocks will be set back one hour earlier compared to the current time.
