In der Ukraine gibt es zunehmend Fälle, in denen Lkw-Fahrer ins Ausland gehen, dort bleiben und ihre Fahrzeuge zurücklassen, um der Mobilmachung zu entkommen. Ukrainian truckers who have gone abroad for work leave their trucks in other countries to avoid returning home due to mobilisation. Therefore, the Association of Carriers wants to equate them with hijackers. 

According to Viktor Balin, vice president of the International Road Transport Association, there have been more cases among truckers when international drivers who have received a temporary legal right to go abroad under the Shlyakh system refuse to return to Ukraine and leave their trucks elsewhere.

As noted in the Association, such actions of drivers bring additional difficulties for companies, as they need to find a driver and pick up the truck from abroad. In addition, a carrier whose driver does not return to Ukraine is blocked in the Shlyakh system, so there is simply no one to send on routes abroad.

"I think that in the near future we will work with lawyers and inform drivers that they will not only have problems with the police, but the situation will be treated as a car theft," Balin said.

Information about such drivers can be passed on to Interpol to prevent them from finding work abroad.

Problems with the work of truckers in Ukraine

As we wrote earlier, truck drivers with Ukrainian citizenship have started to be taken to the military commissariat right at the border. Carriers complain that in such situations, the vehicles driven by drivers are left unattended on the road.

At the same time, the Association of International Road Hauliers also reported that they had received complaints from Ukrainian international carriers that, when returning to Ukraine from abroad, military commissariats (TCC) officers took drivers off their flights and forcibly took them to recruitment centres.

As noted, several drivers were taken away in the Zakarpattia region at the Nyzhni Vorota post. They are stopped, their documents are checked and they are offered to go to the recruitment centre. If they refuse, they are taken by force. They promise that they will check their documents and let them go, but after passing the military medical commission, they are sent to the training centre.

The TCC responded to the complaints and stated that truck drivers are "the same citizens of Ukraine as others, so they must have all the necessary military registration documents".
