The return of air traffic to Ukraine is a task that requires high flight safety, which is monitored by international organizations. This was stated by aviation expert Kostiantyn Kryvolap during a telethon.

"Despite all the statements, if the safety of airplanes, airports, passengers, and runways is not ensured at the proper level, nothing will fly," he emphasized.

Resumption of air traffic in Ukraine

Mr. Kryvolap noted that the international organization ICAO is a recognized leader in aviation safety, focusing on the creation and implementation of standards that are enforced at the national level. Within the European Union, IASA operates, specializing in the development of airport control systems, runway safety and airfield infrastructure.

"It is only by reaching compromise agreements with these aviation regulators that we can expect airports to open. This is of great importance for our business, as the lack of air transportation severely limits its capabilities," the expert emphasized.

According to him, Kyiv is the most ready to resume air transportation in terms of airspace safety. But there are also alternative options, such as Lviv and Uzhhorod.

"Safety is the main criterion. We cannot allow a situation where passenger planes can become a target for missiles or terrorist attacks. We cannot allow a situation where the operational risks of aircraft increase to critical levels. This is unacceptable," Mr. Kryvolap summarized.

He also emphasized the problem of an excessive number of aircraft owned by russian airlines that do not undergo regular maintenance.

"If a certified center does not provide maintenance, these aircraft are not authorized to fly. However, russian airlines ignore these requirements and continue to operate them. But we cannot allow such irresponsibility," the expert emphasized.

When will flights resume?

According to Olivier Jankovec, Director of Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE), in February, the resumption of air traffic in Ukraine could come by the end of 2024. He noted that this requires making sure that the air defense system is in place.

Bohdan Dolintse, aviation expert and aviation sector manager, added that the first stage of the resumption of air transportation in Ukraine will be cargo flights. After that, the possibility of resuming passenger transportation will be considered.
