Housing benefits for Ukrainians have doubled in the Czech Republic: what is known
Under the new provisions, housing payments for vulnerable categories of Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic have increased since the beginning of 2024. About 66,000 Ukrainians under temporary protection are expected to receive increased compensation for accommodation.
According to the new definitions, the amount of accommodation compensation is 6,000 CZK (€244) for registered housing and 4,800 CZK (€195) for unregistered housing. For families with five members or more, the maximum payments are CZK 30,000 (EUR 1,222) and CZK 24,000 (EUR 978), respectively.
Compared to the previous payments of 3,000 CZK per month for registered housing and 2,400 CZK for unregistered housing, the new standards represent a significant increase.

In addition, vulnerable persons are now entitled to free housing from the Czech state for an unlimited period, in contrast to other refugees who can only enjoy this benefit for 150 days.
A further examination of the innovations shows that the Czech government is actively working on a program to help Ukrainians return to their homeland.
According to the Lex Ukrajina law, the government plans to provide financial support to those who decide to return to Ukraine. This means that Ukrainians who have already left the Czech Republic and are in Ukraine will receive a one-time payment. The amount of this assistance has not yet been determined, but applicants must apply no later than three months before the end of temporary protection.
An important detail is that in case of returning to the Czech Republic, Ukrainians will be obliged to return half of the amount of assistance provided.
