Since February 24, 2022, a significant number of Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Poland. The results of a recent study by the National Bank show that one in five adult refugees from Ukraine residing in Poland is male.
This indicates a change in the dynamics of migration, as by 2022, women and children among the migrants made up the majority. This is reported by NBP.
In particular, the new study also contains information on the income of Ukrainians in Poland.
Fresh research on Ukrainians and their income in Poland: details
The National Bank of Poland conducted a study in May - July 2023, collecting questionnaires from 3,658 Ukrainian migrants in all voivodeships of the country. According to the results of the study, the percentage of men among those who arrived in the last two years is 22%, which marks an increase compared to previous periods.
In particular, until 2022, the ratio between women and men among Ukrainian migrants was 55% to 45%, but among those who arrived in the last two years, this ratio increased to 78% to 22%. It is noted that the number of men among Ukrainian migrants has increased, especially given that at the end of 2022, there were only 19% of men.
As for the income of Ukrainians, the main source is wages, but economic circumstances for refugees are more difficult than for those who arrived before the war. It is noted that the pace of refugees' integration into the labor market in Poland has slowed down compared to 2022.
"Ukrainian migrants are well-educated people, but their salaries depend more on the industry and the time of arrival than on their level of education," the report says.

Ukrainian migrants in the IT, construction and transportation sectors receive the highest salaries, regardless of whether they are pre-war migrants or refugees. The average monthly salary hovers just below 3,500 zlotys, which is about 33,000 hryvnias.
The data show that currently 31% of pre-war migrants and 53% of refugees use various forms of social support, with the 500+ program, which provides child benefits, being the most common.
It is important to note that there are differences between the two groups, namely pre-war migrants and refugees, in their plans for future stay in Poland.
While the majority of pre-war migrants may express the intention to stay in the country, among refugees there is a growing percentage of those who consider prolonging their stay abroad. These differences may be related to the specifics of the status and circumstances of displaced persons, as well as their personal circumstances and plans for the future.
