The Ukrainian capital Kyiv has entered the top 100 of the World Cities Brand Perception Ranking. However, the city was on the penultimate place, according to EIU Worldwide Cost of Living and Brand Finance research for 2023. 

Thus, Kiev took 99th place in the rating, leaving behind all the capitals of Europe, North and South America, Asia and some African capitals, such as Lagos and Casablanca.

At the same time, the Ukrainian capital managed to bypass the port city of Karachi in the south of Pakistan in the rating.

Analysts conducted a survey of participants in different parts of the world. They evaluated the cities taking into account seven performance indicators: standards of living in the urban environment, convenience of visiting the city, availability of facilities for remote work and so on.

They also analysed additional privileges, such as the presence of cultural values and heritage, the ability to unite the local population in values, the efficiency of city management, the level of infrastructure and transport development, and the availability of opportunities for scientific research.

According to all these indicators, Kyiv received 53.2 points, which was 9.7 points less than the result of Polish Warsaw (62 position), 8.4 points less than Istanbul (64) and 11.3 points less than Budapest (51 ranking position).

The ranking also includes cities of the aggressor country. For example, St. Petersburg ranked 61st, but Moscow ranked 63rd.

Which cities made it to the top 3?

London was recognised as the best city brand in the world with a score of 84.6 out of 100, which is due to its high awareness among respondents around the world, and recorded a stronger brand perception than any other city that took part in the study

In second place was the US city of New York. Among respondents, this city is widely known as the world's financial capital.

Third place went to Paris, which received an index of 79.7 out of 100. The city was so high in the rating because of its recognisability. "The City of Love" was recognised as open and welcoming.
