The Deutschlandticket for all types of public transport in Germany will be extended beyond May 2024. Its cost will be 49 euros. However, there is a possibility of an increase in the ticket price, rbb24.de reports.

How can the price of a 49 euro travel pass in Germany change?

After long discussions and warnings about the possible abolition of the Deutschlandticket, which covers all of Germany and several stations in neighboring countries, it was decided to extend its validity until 2024. The federal and state governments have reached an agreement on the financing of this project.

It is noted that the funds that remained unused this year can be used in 2024 to compensate for the financial losses of transport companies due to the low cost of travel tickets.

However, the ticket price may be increased, and EUR 49 is considered as the "initial price". At the same time, it is planned to make the ticket "more digital".

How can I buy a Deutschlandticket now?

At the moment, it is possible to get a travel pass for 49 euros with a monthly subscription. This personalized ticket is not transferable and is valid for a calendar month for any number of trips on local public transport throughout the country.

The rules for using the Deutschlandticket for 49 euros define several important aspects: 

- The ticket is available for purchase throughout Germany and cannot be transferred to another passenger. 

- It can be purchased at BVG and other transportation companies, via the Deutsche Bahn website, as well as through SBB, VVS and MVV. 

- The ticket is valid on a subscription basis, automatically renewing for the next month.

- The pass covers various modes of transport, such as regular buses, subways, trams, ferries (including Hamburg and Berlin) and regional trains and 2nd class express trains (RB, RE, S-Bahn (SPNV)).

It is important to keep in mind that the Deutschlandticket is not valid in 1st class cars, on ICE, IC, EC, RE trains of DB Fernverkehr AG or ECE Deutsche Bahn, as well as on tourist trains with a separate fare.

In particular, in the summer, new restrictions were introduced on the use of the 49 euro ticket. Previously, passengers had the opportunity to transfer to intercity transportation free of charge in exceptional situations.

However, this option is no longer available, and passengers cannot transfer to other high-speed connections free of charge. Compensation will be provided only if the passenger is unable to reach their destination by midnight due to a failure in the regional train schedule.
