France is preparing to introduce a new public transport pass for 49 euros. This is reported by Euronews Travel.

This new initiative provides for the possibility of unlimited use of regional TER services and intercity trains for a single fixed low price. The idea of introducing such a subscription arose after the success of a similar program in Germany, where a public transport ticket also costs 49 euros.

Transport Minister Clement Bon revealed the details of the plan and noted that French residents, regardless of their age, will be able to purchase such a ticket for unlimited intercity or TER travel at a fixed and affordable price to encourage the use of trains for travel.

However, this program is scheduled to be launched only next summer.

How will the unified travel pass work?

The pass will be valid on TER trains, which connect various local points in the French regions and serve about 1.1 million passengers daily.

Some popular TER routes include Bordeaux - Arcachon (fare is approximately 15 euros) and Marseille - Toulon (17 euros).

For passengers who regularly travel on these routes, a budget pass will help save money.

Intercity train routes cover French cities and travel longer distances than TER, but they are slower than TGV high-speed trains. Some popular Intercity routes include Paris - Toulouse and Bordeaux - Nice.

Please note that a day's intercity train ticket can cost 94 euros, which is almost twice as much as a monthly pass.

According to the minister, the pass will also entitle you to free travel on local buses, subways, and trams, if possible. However, the details of this possibility have not yet been determined.
