Today, Ukraine has not only domestic and Soviet-made equipment and weapons on the battlefield, but also successfully uses Western military arsenal. At the same time, the field of defense technology has also been modernized, as a significant part of the development has been transferred from the public sector to private companies. This changed the speed and approach to the production of equipment and weapons.
Defense technologies: why Ukraine has become an innovator
The first decisive factor was the fact that Ukrainian private companies took the initiative and, having retrained, took over the development and creation of a significant part of Ukraine's military arsenal.
The second important change was that Ukraine moved from a waterfall approach to the production of military equipment to a flexible approach. The waterfall approach is used by most countries in the world, but it does not offer advantages in martial law. After all, this approach implies that a full set of requirements and solutions must be defined before a product is created, and testing will take place only after the product is fully manufactured.
At the same time, the agile approach allows you to prioritize critical requirements, solve certain problems as they arise, test developments directly on the battlefield, and improve their functions based on real-world situations rather than artificial conditions. And this provides an important resource - time. After all, time is perhaps the most important advantage in the context of constant hostilities. In addition, it makes it possible to effectively adapt to the changing environment and specific conditions in certain areas of the front, as well as to successfully resist a country with a larger army and resources.
How the IT sector has changed Ukraine's defense sector
Much of the success that Ukraine has had on the battlefield today has been achieved thanks to private IT companies that worked to digitalize the country before February 24, 2022, and after the full-scale invasion began developing innovative military technologies. One of the most striking examples is the unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturing sector, as drones have become an integral part of the Ukrainian military arsenal, which has helped to achieve a decisive advantage over the russian army.
In addition, companies specializing in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence have played a significant role. The combination of several types of technologies has provided the Ukrainian military with effective and modern weapons, and ordinary Ukrainians with tools that help minimize the negative consequences of the russian invasion. For example, special unmanned systems for de-mining territories that independently find and neutralize explosive devices and missile remnants.

Foreign investment in Ukraine's defense sector
Rapid progress would not have been possible without the participation of international investors. However, it is the effective work and modern solutions of Ukrainian companies that have caused a boom in investor interest.
But it is also important that interest in Ukraine's defense sector has gone beyond the private sector to include large investors in places like Silicon Valley. This means that after the end of hostilities, Ukraine has a chance to become a global leader in defense technology.
In addition, Ukraine is already beginning to push russia out of the market for military equipment, as the solutions and finished products offered by the Ukrainian defense sector are much more innovative and efficient than russian developments.
So, despite the extremely difficult situation and the ongoing war, Ukrainians are already successfully working to secure their future, making great strides towards a complete transformation of the country and society.
We remind you! Recent statements by Ukrainian authorities have led to an even more heated discussion of the counteroffensive, as they indicate that the operation has already begun. We told you what Ukrainians would consider a victory and whether they agree to the 2022 borders in our previous article.
