Greece has extended temporary protection for Ukrainians until 2027: details
Greece has decided to extend temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 2027 in coordination with the EU. Most residence permits are extended automatically, without applying to state authorities, and in some cases, a simplified document renewal procedure is provided. Find out who is eligible for automatic extension and other details
The Greek government has officially extended the temporary protection regime for Ukrainian citizens until March 4, 2027. The decision was made in accordance with the pan-European position and agreed upon at the European Union level. This means that Ukrainians will continue to be able to legally reside, work, and enjoy basic social rights in Greece.
Automatic extension of permits
Residence permits that were due to expire between March 2023 and March 2026 will be automatically extended.
There is no need to contact government agencies, submit applications, or update documents — the extension will take place without any additional action on the part of the permit holders.
Renewal of permits for travel abroad
Ukrainians who are planning to travel or leave Greece can renew their permits in person starting February 16, 2026.
To do this, they should contact the relevant asylum departments. Important:
you must have tickets (printed or electronic);
no prior appointment is required.
Updating your permit is recommended for those who plan to cross the border in order to avoid possible complications upon return.
