On the eve of Christmas and New Year, the Carpathians traditionally become the center of winter tourism in Ukraine. Hundreds of thousands of travelers are looking for accommodation near ski resorts, which inevitably affects prices. This year, in some localities, the cost of living has increased by tens and sometimes hundreds of percent compared to last season. However, even amid the rise in prices, there are still destinations where you can comfortably celebrate the winter holidays without breaking the bank.

Where did housing prices in the Carpathians rise the most?

On the eve of the Christmas and New Year holidays, housing prices rose the most in popular tourist locations near ski resorts. It is here that demand is traditionally the highest, and the number of available options is rapidly decreasing.

Polyanitsa, located near Bukovel, became the most expensive settlement this season. The average cost of daily renting a house here is about UAH 5,500, which is about 10% more than last year. High prices are explained by the developed infrastructure, proximity to ski lifts and stable tourist demand.

What to do in Bukovel if you don't ski or snowboard — we explain it here.

Accommodation in Tatariv is somewhat cheaper, but still unaffordable for a budget vacation, at an average of UAH 4,500 per night. In Mykulychyn, the average price is about UAH 3,200, which, unlike other resorts, is even slightly lower than last year. In Yablunitsa, prices remained stable at around UAH 3,000 per night.

Special attention should be paid to Slavske, where the cost of daily rent has more than doubled. Despite this, the average price here is about UAH 2,500, which makes it a popular destination, but not the cheapest. In Vorokhta, prices have also risen significantly - up to UAH 2,000 per day.

Where in the Carpathians can you celebrate Christmas and New Year inexpensively?

Despite the general rise in prices, there are still locations in the Carpathians where a holiday vacation does not require significant expenses. Such destinations are suitable for those looking for peace, nature and the atmosphere of winter holidays without overpaying for proximity to top resorts.

The most affordable options this season are Yasinya and Volovets. In Yasinya, daily house rentals start at about UAH 900, and in Volovets - from UAH 500 per day, which makes these destinations one of the cheapest in the Carpathian region. At the same time, tourists get mountain scenery, silence, and the opportunity to organize an active vacation without the tourist crowd.

Another way to save money is to choose hotels or recreation centers instead of renting a private house. In many localities, staying in a room is cheaper than renting a whole house. For example, in Polianytsia, the average room price has dropped to UAH 1,250, and in Yaremche and Vorokhta, it's about UAH 1,000 per night.

This accommodation format is especially suitable for travelers who do not need a large area or a separate territory but want to spend the holidays in the mountains with minimal expenses.
