When you want to escape the hustle and bustle and recharge your batteries, Truskavets is the perfect destination. This cosy resort in western Ukraine has been considered the heart of balneological recreation for many years. It offers a unique combination of nature, history and modern comforts: air filled with the scent of pine needles, healing springs and a relaxed atmosphere where it is easy to forget about your worries. Here's how to spend a fulfilling and unforgettable weekend in Truskavets.

Walks and the atmosphere of the city

The first place to visit is the mineral water pump room. This is the real centre of Truskavets, where life never stops for a minute. People come here not only for health reasons, but also for socialising, meeting new people and going for walks. There are shops, cafes, and an open-air gallery nearby, and in the evenings, the streets are filled with the light noise of the resort.

Next, head to Adamovka Park, the city's main green oasis, where kilometres of trails are laid out over an area of more than 60 hectares. Walking among ancient oaks, chestnuts and rare trees such as magnolias and plane trees, you can feel the special harmony that people come here for. It is especially crowded here on weekends: some people run, some ride bicycles, and some just breathe the fresh air on a bench by the pond.

Places to see

If you love beautiful panoramas, climb Mount Tsukhiv. The observation tower, nicknamed the ‘Carpathian Lighthouse’, offers a stunning view of the whole of Truskavets and its surroundings. Admission is free, and photos taken from here always turn out atmospheric. After a walk, you can go down to the lake — in hot weather, people swim and have picnics here, and in the evening, the water reflects the lights of the city, creating a romantic mood.

Another pleasant place is the territory of the Karpaty sanatorium. Even if you are not a guest of the health resort, it is worth visiting for the well-kept paths, decorative flower beds and mini-zoo, which children especially enjoy.

Don't forget to visit the souvenir market. It is a real kaleidoscope of Ukrainian colour: woodwork, ceramics, woolen items and honey — everyone will find a souvenir to take home.

Art and history of Truskavets

For those who enjoy cultural activities, the museums of Truskavets are ideal. The City History Museum will introduce you to the resort's past: from its first mentions to the present day. Here you can see ancient documents, household items and temporary exhibitions, including art exhibitions.

The art museum of Mykhailo Bilas, a legendary Ukrainian textile master, is particularly noteworthy. The building itself is an old wooden house from the Austro-Hungarian era, and inside there are bright tapestries, batik and hand embroidery. Each hall is dedicated to a separate theme, and the atmosphere inspires even those who are far from art.

It is no less interesting to visit the Museum of Ukrainian Majolica, a rare collection of decorative ceramics from all over Ukraine. More than 1,500 exhibits demonstrate how folk crafts are transformed into contemporary art. This place is literally imbued with the warmth and colours of traditions.

Shrines and landmarks

One of the symbols of the city is the Church of St. Nicholas, the oldest temple in Truskavets, built in the 15th century. Inside, ancient icons and frescoes have been preserved, and next to it stands a 16th-century bell tower.

You can finish your walk at the statue of Christ the Saviour, the tallest in Ukraine. It towers over Goshevska Mountain and is visible from almost anywhere in the city, symbolising peace and hope.

Unusual locations

For lovers of atmospheric walks, the ‘exclusion zone’ — a neglected part of the old resort area — is ideal. Once bustling with life, it is now dominated by silence and a slight aura of mysticism. Photographers and stalkers come here to experience the contrast between the lively centre and the oblivion of the past.

And if you just want to enjoy nature, head to the Podgorye Landscape Park. Everything here breathes tranquillity: shady paths, ancient fortifications and the cleanest air create an atmosphere of complete peace.
